About the blog

After a quarter-century of slurping up spaghetti and munching on meatballs, I’m embarking on a quest to learn my family’s Italian history through — naturally — food. But uncovering the origins of my grandmother’s incomparable sauce recipe is only the tip of the tomato.

Eating Italian food has become part of the American way of life. From soaking bread in olive oil to grabbing a slice at the local pizzeria, Italian food is as American as… well, you know.

So, along with posts about my grandmother’s secret sauce ingredient and my mission to master the art of gnocchi making, Spaghetti & Meatballs will document the ubiquitous role of Italian food in American culture.

Hi. I am your other aunt. Your father and I are half siblings and I have met you godfather (you are the apple of his eye) and Mary Ellen and Michael. Would love to meet you someday.
I already love your blog. I could eat Italian everyday. The cookies sound incredible.
I subscribed and will be telling my friends who also love Italian.

    Besos,

    Yolanda

Christina- Just love your blog! As I write I am also preparing my shopping lists for the upcoming holiest of seasons for my husband’s Catholic Italian family. Although my MIL has passed, her recipes have been well documented in our family, beginning with the Holy Thursday Stuffed Artichokes, Good Friday Hot Cross Buns, Easter Braided Sweet Bread formed into cute bunny ears for the kids, cannolis with two different fillings, and Easter Rice (layers of rice, chopped egg, ground beef, chicken, parsley, cheese formed in a mound, baked and served with a chicken gravy).
Although I am not Italian by birth, I have become Italian during my 39 years of marriage. Each year I think that I really should cut back on the things I make for Easter and then I realize that I just can’t delete one thing. Everyone has their favorites and I am not the kind of Mom/Grandmom to disappoint anyone. Keep up the great recipes and blogs! If you need any great recipes, my MIL’s are wonderful!
