Italian food-inspired… clothing?

I haven’t been cooking much lately. The icy sidewalks have kept me away from the grocery store (visions of flying foodstuffs — and me falling to the ground – dancing in my head). And Andrew and I have been favoring restaurant meals, just to get out of the house. So, I was a bit stuck on what to write about this week….

When I got an e-mail from my great friend Allison. She’d come upon something that reminded her of this blog: Spaghetti stilettos! I kid you not, dear Italian food-loving reader. There exists a $350 pair of heels that look (almost) good enough to eat.

This amazing discovery sent me on an immediate mission: To find out just how much our clothing is inspired by Italian food. It didn’t take me long to realize that we can thank Italian food for more than just spaghetti straps.

Here are a few of my favorite finds:

Apparently never worn (how could such a travesty be true?) vintage pizza sweater dress

Beef ravioli baseball cap, perfect for that cap-loving guy from 30 Rock

If stilettos aren’t you’re style, try the spaghetti lace-ups

Straight off the runway, the Jeremy Scott pizza dress

“My other head is a meatball” T-shirt

The always fashionable pizza scarf

And last, but certainly not least, the Spaghetti and Meatballs T-shirt
